The Plants and Wildlife of the Last Mile

The Last Mile is part of the Watsonville Slough System which has over 300 species of birds and over 100 species of plants. Within a very short walk along the Last Mile, you can see over 100 birds that frequently visit the slough along Rio Boca road.

To help you identify the birds that you see, the Friends of Pajaro Dunes has compiled a list of birds and plants that are commonly seen.

Birds

As part of the Watsonville Slough Enhancement Plan, this complete bird list was compiled detailing the bird species known to have occurred in the Watsonville Sloughs. Over the next few months, we will link each bird with the interactive bird finder. If you find a web link on the bird species of interest, just click the link.

The interactive bird finder allows you to view thumbnails of birds typically found in the slough. Click any picture to get a quick guide to each bird and a set of pictures -- many taken by homeowners and guests -- about the bird.

Plants

The interactive plant finder provides quick views of each plant. Click on any one of them to see valuable information about each plant.

The Plant Guide's handy format allows you to quickly print a guide for you to take along with you.
