Talk on the Monterey Bay National Sanctuary

Informative Event on Conservation Efforts

Over 20 homeowners and guests participated in an informative talk by Kaitilin Gaffney of the Ocean Conservancy on the Monterey Bay National Sanctuary.

The Sanctuary's has many challenges due to over fishing and pollution caused by urban populations, agricultural runoffs, and cruise ship dumping. Kaitilin discussed the Convervancy's approaches at solutions that involve cooperation from all groups.

The guests continued the discussion over refreshments feeling more informed about the issues and challenges that affect Pajaro Dunes' front yard.

Ohlone Campfire brings history to Pajaro Dunes Residents and Guests

Patrick Orozco, chairman of the Pajaro Valley Ohlone Indian Council, and his dance group, Ama-Ka-Tura, presented an evening of Ohlone Indian culture on Saturday, August 20 at Pajaro Dunes.    The event was attended by about 40 homeowners and guests.  The dance group performed a variety of Native American dances and songs about the animals that once roamed throughout Pajaro Valley.   Patrick enchanted the audience with his story telling around the campfire.
Patrick is dedicated to the protection and preservation of sacred sites, including gravesites and ceremonial locations. He enjoys learning and teaching the language, songs, dances and stories of his people. His group, Ama-Ka-Tura, travels throughout the Bay Area teaching children and adults about the culture and concerns of the Indian people.   Patrick has also participated in the production of several films about his culture, including "Century of Change" and "We Pray With Tobacco." He enjoys a wonderful family life with his wife, Mary, and their many children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
